Mentor: Dr. Yi-Ping Li, PhD, Dean’s Endowed Professor, School of Medicine (SOM), Department of Pathology. Email: yli81@tulane.edu
Five NIH funded post-doctoral positions are available immediately for highly motivated, enthusiastic, and creative researchers in Dr. Yi-Ping Li’s laboratory in the Department of Pathology at the Tulane University School of Medicine. The stipend will be commensurate with experience according to the NIH guidelines.
About the Laboratory
The Li lab has diverse research interests, including studying the mechanisms underlying the pathogeneses of bone diseases such as osteoporosis, and age-related diseases; innate/adaptive immune systems, and autoimmunity and inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, periodontitis, and osteoarthritis; tumorigenesis and cancer immunotherapy; dental, bone, and craniofacial development and related diseases; cellular signal transduction mechanisms; and epigenetic and transcriptional regulation of gene expression. The lab is funded by multiple NIH grants and housed in the state-of-the-art New Orleans BioInnovation Center with access to modern core facilities and equipment. Work in the Li lab has helped lay the foundation of modern molecular osteoclast biology including discovery of molecular mechanisms driving osteoclast bone resorption. Seminal papers in journals such as Nature Genetics, Nature Communications, Genes & Development and PNAS have described the cloning and characterization of genes critical to osteoclast function, including Cathepsin K, Atp6i, Rgs10, and Gα13. The lab has extensive experience in human disease studies using animal models. Dr. Li is committed to fostering a collaborative environment to promote creative scientific research and the career development of each lab member.
